With about 80km to go, the race was decided when the peloton split in two, leaving 13 riders in the front group, including four from SD Worx and three from AG Insurance. In the main chasing pack, it was Fenix-Premier Tech Development who took control of the pursuit, having been caught off guard by the split and missing out on the front move. The leaders' advantage hovered at just under 2' over the chase, when, with around 40km remaining, Mischa Bredewold launched a solo attack.
At this point the peloton stopped chasing, and the gap for the 13 front riders ballooned to over 4 minutes, while Bredewold failed to bridge across and found herself stranded in no man's land between the two groups.
As the final lap began, SD Worx started to play their team cards. First, Julia Kopecký attacked but was promptly reabsorbed, followed closely by a move from Femke Markus that momentarily shattered the leading group before it came back together with 5km to go. With 2km remaining, Kopecký tried her luck once more, but to no avail.
It all came down to a sprint, and while SD Worx launched the lead-out, it was Federica Venturelli who powered to victory! This came just minutes after Elisa Longo Borghini's triumph at the Giro d'Italia! Lonneke Uneken crossed the line in second, while Marta Lach completed the podium. Austrian champion Kathrin Schweinberger and Anna van Wersch rounded out the day's Top 5.
