Stage 2 of Vuelta a Burgos, once again suited for the fastest wheels. The daily breakaway established after around 35km and multiple attacks, when De Laurentiis, Pavesi and Snortheim broke away from the pack. They reached a maximum advantage of ~3 minutes and their action lasted until 22km to go, just enough to allow Pavesi to claim the Intermediate Sprint. After the break was caught other riders tried to escape, with Fenix-Deceuninck particularly active as well as Sara Martin. Peloton even split a couple of times with dangerous elements such as Bäckstedt, van Anrooij, Kerbaol and Ottestad gaining some margin, but the sprinters' teams kept it all togheter. The final mass sprint was opened by Ally Wollaston but Lorena Wiebes, launched by Bredewold, quickly responded. Elisa Balsamo took her wheel but couldn't do anything against the Dutch champion who claimed a back to back win on Spanish soil. Eight seasonal and 126th career win for Lorena Wiebes. Extraordinary numbers considering she's only 27 years old!
