Second edition of the Copenhagen Sprint, first-ever WWT race on Danish soil. As the name suggests, the course was designed for pure sprinters, and nearly all of the fastest finishers in the peloton lined up today.
A breakaway of 7 quickly established with Maira Jasch, Solbjork Minke Anderson, Olympia Norrid-Mortensen, Ida Krickau, Andrea Casagranda, Senne Knaven and April Tacey. This attack lasted until 40km from the finish. With 25km to go the Danish national team attacked again with Silje Antvorskov, who remained at the front for around 10km. Entering the final lap, with 10km still to go, Charlotte Kool was victim of a mechanical problem.
Exciting battle in the final kilometers with the strongest trains, SD Worx, Lidl-Trek and Canyon-SRAM, fighting for the positions. Kool also managed to come back at the front thanks to an amazing work from Couzens. Lorena Wiebes launched her sprint at around 250m from the finish and immediately gained a big margin, going to win the race by multiple bike lengths, as she did in the opening stage of Giro d'Italia before the much-debated disqualification. Second place for Charlotte Kool and third for Nienke Veenhoven, completing a podium sweep for the Netherlands! Strong 4th place for Linda Zanetti, with Chiara Consonni rounding out the top five.
