She wanted this victory and she got it! World Time Trial Champion Marlen Reusser had been preparing for this time trial for months, knowing it would be a major watershed moment for this edition of the Tour de France, and she did not disappoint! She takes the stage win and claims the yellow jersey, though she almost saw victory slip away in the closing moments as Dutch road champion Lieke Nooijen came within just 4 seconds of winning! Finishing 17 seconds back was Demi Vollering, who edged out Zoe Bäckstedt by just 2 seconds.
The general classification undergoes a major shake-up, with Reusser taking over the yellow jersey with a 14-second lead over Vollering, while Cédrine Kerbaol moves up into third place at 54 seconds back!
It was a tougher day for Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, who had prepared specifically for this time trial. Her deficit to Reusser now stands at 2 minutes and 13 seconds. Floating beyond the 3-minute mark are Niamh Fisher-Black, the Fenix-Deceuninck duo of Puck Pieterse and Yara Kastelijn, and Usoa Ostolaza.
Tomorrow and the day after feature stages that could well see long-range breakaways succeed, before tackling Mont Ventoux!
